Train Simulator: Western Maryland H-9 Class
Return to the glorious age of steam railroading in the Allegheny Mountains with Machine Rail’s extraordinary Western Maryland H-9 class 2-8-0 built by The Baldwin Locomotive Works!
The Western Maryland – nicknamed the “Wild Mary” – was one of America’s most captivating and admired railroads and was renowned both for its heavy coal-hauling and fast freights. A workhorse of the Western Maryland in the steam era was the 2-8-0 “Consolidation” type, and notable among WM’s large 2-8-0 roster were the forty H-9 class locomotives (WM 801-840) built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1921. The H-9s, in updated form, would serve the Wild Mary for more than three decades and it was H-9 No. 830 which closed out the steam era on the WM in 1954.
Western Maryland’s classic H-9 2-8-0 comes to Train Simulator Classic through the superlative artistry of developer Machine Rail. Included in this DLC are the H-9 in three versions: An “as built” locomotive with the details and livery of the locomotive from the 1920s and 1930s; a modernized version wearing WM’s famed “Fireball” logo and livery representative of the 1940s and early 1950s; and a version of the Fireball-livery locomotive in weathered condition.
Machine Rail’s Western Maryland H-9 is masterfully recreated based upon original blueprint specifications and features authentic controls, operating features, performance, and sounds. The locomotive includes a range of animations, working internal and external lights, and numerous version-specific visual details.
A selection of six period-authentic types of Western Maryland freight equipment in multiple liveries and variations, plus four realistic career scenarios, have been created for Machine Rail by High Iron Simulations and are included in the DLC. The scenarios are set on the WM Thomas Subdivision trackage of the Train Simulator Classic B&O Mountain Subdivision route (route available separately).
