The Southern Railway was one of North America’s great and admired railroad institutions. Stretching its rails nearly 10,000 miles across America’s Southeast and Midwest, the Southern called at Washington, D. C., Atlanta, New Orleans, Cincinnati, and St Louis. The remarkable railroad was at once known for its beautiful passenger trains as well as being an innovative, tough-as-nails mountain railroad that was home to the likes of legendary Saluda Grade.
Now, the Southern Railway in all its glory comes to Train Simulator Classic with Southern Railway Retro Pack 01 from acclaimed developer High Iron Simulations!
With Southern Railway Retro Pack 01, you will take the throttle of four types of classic and potent diesel power – the Electro-Motive SD40-2, GP35, GP18, and F7 – and battle tonnage on the rugged Saluda Grade: Asheville – Spartanburg route (route available separately). The locomotives feature road-specific details (including Southern’s distinctive “Hi-hood” carbody style) and advanced air braking and performance; the GP18 is provided in Southern and Central of Georgia liveries; the GP35 is featured in Southern, Central of Georgia, and Savannah & Atlanta liveries.
Joining the motive power in Southern Railway Retro Pack 01 is the railroad’s distinctive and innovative “receiver” car used for mid-train operations, its noted steel bay-window caboose in two liveries, and a remarkable selection of six types of freight rolling stock in a wide variety of liveries including Southern, Central of Georgia, Savannah & Atlanta, Norfolk & Western, and Nickel Plate Road.
A selection of ten realistic career scenarios, closely based upon Southern Railway operations and train numbers of the 1960s and 1970s and featuring main line manifests, coal trains, switching, and local duties, will put you to work on the spectacular 70-mile Train Simulator Classic Saluda Grade: Asheville – Spartanburg route. Content of Southern Railway Retro Pack 01 will also be an ideal fit to bring the Southern Railway era to life on Train Simulator Classic’s Norfolk Southern N-Line route.
